C&R Expands Crosstraining Program to Support Flexibility and Growth

Lean manufacturing is all about eliminating waste and working smarter, but when a shop runs lean, just a few absences can make scheduling a challenge. That’s where cross-training comes in.

At C&R, we’ve always valued versatility on the shop floor, and this year we’ve expanded our cross-training program to make it even stronger and more effective. The goal is simple: build in flexibility so multiple team members can cover key machines and duties when needed.

And the benefits go beyond just scheduling. Cross-training helps employees step into different roles, support one another, and get a better understanding of how the whole operation works. It also helps keep things fresh by giving team members the chance to learn new skills and expand their role even further.

Of course, implementing cross-training takes planning and requires balancing production with training time. Every shop has to find the rhythm that works best, whether it’s setting aside a day, or weaving training into the everyday workflow.

For C&R, the investment in cross-training is about much more than efficiency, it’s about giving employees the chance to grow, share knowledge, and build a workplace where everyone can succeed.
